Impact
Citizen Capital is a pioneer fund in impact investing
Since 2008, we have been convinced that a clearly defined mission is a strategic lever for aligning teams, guiding decisions, and transforming the world on its own scale.
Our Mission
We channel private capital towards impactful organizations that tackle humanity’s major challenges.
We back women and men who build these companies, based on disruptive solutions to solve major social or environmental problems.
We recognize the power of everyone —investors and shareholders, entrepreneurs and executives, employees, customers, and citizens — to work together to shape an economy that serves society.
One mission, 4 objectives
As a mission-driven company since 2021, Citizen Capital has broken down its purpose into four mission objectives.
Drive more
capital towards projects that tackle humanity’s toughest challenges.
Support
these innovative companies to deploy their mission at the heart of their economic model.
Explore
new ways to tackle major human needs that are poorly served by the market.
Promote
and embody values of openness, diversity, and community.
Our investment philosophy
We focus on the fundamental issues of our time
Life Essentials
Allow individuals, especially the most vulnerable, to live in good health and dignity
Human Empowerment
Enable all members of society to achieve their full potential
Regenerative Economy
Take action to shift towards a regenerative, post-carbon economy with a net positive impact on the planet.
Supporting and deploying impact
A company’s mission is a lever for strategic value creation
In addition to providing investment, we help each company in our portfolio to structure its impact, align it with its business model, and leverage it to create strategic value across all of its operational challenges.
Clients
The mission defines the meaning and value that the company creates for its customers. How can the mission be translated into objectives, priorities, and incentives, while clearly communicating its meaning to the customer?
HR & culture
A mission embodied becomes a common language that strengthens team cohesion and corporate culture. How can you recruit people who share your mission and enable them to become ambassadors for the company?
Product
The product is often the concrete embodiment of the mission. How can the mission be used as a guiding principle to improve product functionality and strengthen customer loyalty?
Brand
The mission defines the brand’s identity and creates emotional engagement. How can you use the mission to differentiate your brand?
From the pre-investment phase onwards, Citizen Capital supported us in structuring our mission, culminating in our transition to a mission-driven company in 2024.
This approach enabled us to align governance, teams, and strategic direction with the invaluable support of our mission committee. Since then, the mission has been a powerful lever for internal cohesion, which has been particularly valuable in the context of our international development.
In 2024, we strengthened our impact measurement by conducting a carbon life cycle analysis of our ingredients. This enabled us to identify those with the highest environmental benefits—taking into account avoided alternatives and logistical impacts—and focus our efforts on the most virtuous ones. Beyond the more attractive price, our customers are also buying measurable positive impact.
Our commitments
Promoting the Mission-Driven Company
Citizen Capital participated in the creation of the Community of Mission-Driven Companies in 2018 (Laurence is one of the founding members). As a mission-driven company since 2021, we use our mission as a tool for creating strategic value, both for ourselves and for the companies we support.
Embodying our commitment
Recognized in 2018 as “Best For the World” among B Corp companies, Citizen Capital scored 115 points for its third certification in 2024 (+17 points since 2015), well above the B Corp average of around 90 points.
Acting as a responsible investor
A signatory to the Principles for Responsible Investment since 2010, Citizen Capital has adopted the Article 9 classification of the SFDR regulation for all of its funds.
Committing to a regenerative economy
In 2024, after nine months of collaboration with the Business Climate Convention, Citizen Capital presented its roadmap for a regenerative economy, with four levers for action, which are now integrated into the company’s mission objectives.
