Encouraging elementary school students to adopt eco-friendly habits in their daily lives.

FINDINGS

Climate change, pollution, and massive biodiversity loss are pressing issues that are already having visible and significant consequences on our daily lives. It is therefore more necessary than ever to strengthen the education of younger generations. Education for sustainable development (ESD) is one of the missions of schools as set out in the Education Code. It is based on school curricula and educational projects involving students.

PURPOSE OF THE IMPACT CONTRACT

Promoting eco-friendly habits in everyday life to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from households through an educational program for elementary schools (Carbone Scol’ERE, designed and developed in Quebec).

IMPACT OBJECTIVES

  • 25,650 households raised awareness.
  • 15,531 tons of greenhouse gases avoided (immediate effect).
  • 8 different types of challenges completed by households (number of eligible challenges).
  • 4,000 tons of greenhouse gases avoided (long-term effect ~ 1 year after program).
